Employees Fired for Pursuing Alleged Shoplifter 

And get this. both employees were on break and the shoplifter they helped the security guard catch, didnt even shoplift from their store. It was a different store entirely.
So basically two do-gooders, NOT on the clock at the time, apprehended a criminal stealing from a store they did NOT work at!

How does their employer justify firing them?. If you read the article you'll see that most retail store have a no chase policy to protect the company from injuries sustained by both employees AND accused criminals.
But this case doesnt involve their employer at all.  This is tantamount to advising all employees that upon hire they are no longer allowed to get involved in anything,  anywhere, that may result in injury and / or lawsuit.

Ok, I didnt "feel' any of these "lower" taxes,  probably because I'm in the highest "tax-me" state, but maybe you did???

Congress cut individuals' federal taxes for this year by about $173 billion shortly after President Barack Obama took office, dwarfing the $28.6 billion in increases by states.

In the next few years, however, many can expect to pay more. Some future increases were enacted as part of Obama's health care overhaul. And former President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire in January. Obama and the Democrats want to renew only some of them, thus raising taxes for individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000.

"The fact is in the past year we have had more tax cuts than almost anytime in our nation's history," said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn

The massive economic recovery package enacted last year included about $300 billion in tax cuts over 10 years. About $232 billion was in cuts for individuals, nearly all in the first two years.

The most generous was Obama's Making Work Pay credit, which gives individuals up to $400 and couples up to $800 for 2009 and 2010. The $1,000 child tax credit was expanded to more families, and the working poor can qualify for as much as $5,657 from the Earned Income Tax Credit.

There were also credits for qualified families who buy new homes or make energy improvements to existing ones, as well as tax breaks to help pay college tuition or buy new cars.

I'll be the first to tell ya how much i hate new york city, but it can indeed be very entertaining, as witnessed by these two articles below:

 Yup, no explanation really necessary, just like the headline reads, men & women ride the subway with no pants on, on this "special" day.
This is not just a nyc event. Here is a  list of cities who participated last year.   good idea to check it out because i have found these are generally places you would NOT wanna live in, especially at nite, NOT because of this event, but simply because, its an indication of other things that may take place rather routinely.  OK call me a Moral conservative. You would be wrong, very wrong though. For me Its much more of a "crime" thing. You see, places like where this occurs, i would assume have also a higher crime rate. Again NOT related to this event at all, just a general  laissez-faire attitude.
