New President .....

Starting to act like the old president.
Hmmm ....  the more things change, the more they seemingly stay the same.

first:
Obama's choice for deputy defense secretary, William J. Lynn, a former defense lobbyist is already an  exception to his own ban on hiring lobbyists. .
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090125/ap_on_go_co/mccain_lobbyist_1

second
Obama's ban on earmarks doesn't mean interest groups, lobbyists and lawmakers won't be able to funnel money to pet projects, it just means they wil be more hidden from public scrutiny.

and its only his 1st week in office.  here's hoping this is an aberration and not an "Obamanation"

Signs of the times

First photo is a new "mens" fashion natural following the new liberal government and their assumed agenda

Secret Revealed During Obama Oath?

When Bush appointed Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme court there were many assumptions as to why, much speculation. But now during the Obama swearing in, the real reason may have finally come to light, albeit in a faux paux moment.  Yes, while swearing in Obama, Roberts resorted to the same "manglish" (mangled english) that Bush made "normal" over his 8 tenuous years as president.
Yep, Roberts mangled the short 35 word swearing in oath to Obama, words which Obama fixed as he repeated the oath.

The Biggest Event of My Life

Politically speaking.
Say what you will about Obama; Love him, hate him, fear him or hope in him, this is THE biggest U.S. inauguration i can remember.  Worldwide,  this is a HUGE event.   The TV has shown Kenya where Obama's father is from and parts of Europe,  people all over are watching, and no doubt hoping.
Is it because of who or what Obama is?  doubtful, because with all due repect, Obama is a nobody. He may hopefully become a somebody before he''s done, but not now, not yet.  Sadly a significant amount of the "anticipation" cannot be for whom Obama is but rather for the jubilation of what he represents; REGIME CHANGE.  the end of the Bush debacle.
Odds are that Obama will be no miracle worker. Virtually no one can overcome all the obstacles facing him from the past administration.  unless of course he IS what the world is viewing him as -a kind of  second coming .if you will..   a messiah of sorts who has just beaten back the devil and who now tries to restore the glory, the peace, the tranquility, the love  the United States; back to what it used to be, a place the world looked up to, instead of down upon.
I have my fears too.  My biggest being that he'll make a hard left, toward socialism;
another fear is that he will succumb to "certain" black peoples demand that he be more black,   an issue that ruined the political career another well intentioned, good man, the former mayor of New York City, Mayor Dinkins.  Dinkins just didnt know how to say no. And the result was the worst New york city in my lifetime.  Heres hoping this time will be different.

Returned from whence it came

A fitting end, letting some of our troubles be flushed away.  Finally a little of what spewed from it, can be returned to it.

“Is It Ever Wrong to do the Right Thing?”

THAT is this years question.
The Great American Think-Off releases the 2009 essay and debate question "Is It Ever Wrong to do the Right Thing?"

The key to writing a successful essay is to ground your argument in personal experience. The judges are looking for essays that address this central problem of moral philosophy by speaking about personal experience rather than abstract philosophical reasoning. Tell a good story that shows a firm standing on one side or the other of this philosophical divide.

Entering the competition is easy. Just submit an essay of 750 words or less by April 1, 2009 (postmark date). You may send your essay in one of three ways: through the mail to Great American Think-Off, New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, P.O. Box 246, New York Mills, MN 56567 or email to nymills@kulcher.org (no attachments), or simply click on the online form submission button above.
A panel of judges will select four finalists to come to New York Mills, Minnesota for the final debate to be held June 13, 2009. The names of the four finalists, who each receive $500 plus travel, food and lodging expenses, will be announced May 1, 2009. The winner is decided by the audience attending the debate and she or he will be named "America's Greatest Thinker for 2009".

Celebrating its 17th year, the Great American Think-Off is a national philosophy competition providing an opportunity for ordinary people to voice their thoughts on some of life's more perplexing questions
