Abortion Questions, help wanted

I was sent an article written by Erika Bachiochi entitled How Abortion Hurts Women: The Hard Proof. This article was written by her for Crisis Magazine and can be read here

After having read it I was left with a number of questions and opinions, for which I look for answers. All opinion and facts are happily accepted, with of course more credence given to the "provable" facts.
the article statements are reprinted below follow by my questions / opinions in CAPITAL LETTERS so as to make it easier to separate the two. Here we go:
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, presents evidence supporting a link between induced abortion and increased risk of breast cancer

MY UNEDUCATED GUESS HERE WOULD BE THAT MISCARRIAGE OUGHT POSSIBLY ALSO INCREASE THAT RISK, NO?
_________________________________________________________________________________
Women who have had abortions suffer an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and suicide.

IS IT NOT ALSO POSSIBLE WITH EQUAL REGULARITY THAT WOMEN WHO HAVE THEIR BABIES AND THUS HAVE TO "GIVE UP" THEIR CURRENT LIVES AND LIFE LONG GOALS, NOT TO MENTION THAT OF THE BABIES DADDY'S LIVES AND GOALS ALSO SUFFER FROM THE ABOVE? THE ONLY WAY FOR HER STATEMENT TO BE ACCURATE IS TO MEASURE THE SAME SYMPTOMS AFTER ABORTION IS NOT AN OPTION, WHEN THE WOMAN AND MAN ARE FORCED TO ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A BABY. I HAPPEN TO THINK THIS WOULD LEAD TO MUCH MORE anxiety, depression, and suicide, NOT TO MENTION DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WITH EACH PARTY BLAMING THE OTHER FOR THEIR PREDICAMENT. YOU SEE IN THE SCENARIO ABOVE WOMEN WHO CARRIED THEIR BABY TO "TERM" DID SO BY "CHOICE" . IN MY SCENARIO I WOULD LIKE TO MEASURE WOMEN'S MENTAL CONDITIONS WHEN FORCED TO CARRY AN UNWANTED BABY TO TERM.

Pre-term birth is associated with low birth-weight babies, and very low birth-weight babies (those born between 20 and 27 weeks) have 38 times the risk of having cerebral palsy—not to mention medical costs 28 times greater —than full-term babies.

WHILE THIS MAY BE TRUE, THIS IS BEING USED AS A SCARE TACTIC.
BOTH MYSELF AND MY SIBLING WERE PREMATURE; I WAS BORN AT 7 MONTHS, MY SIBLING BORN AT 6 MONTHS. BOTH OF US (THANK GOD) ARE NORMAL IN RESPECT TO "MEDICAL COSTS". BOTH OF US ARE NOW "MIDDLE AGED"

We can'’t afford to do the much more difficult work of creating environments that welcome women who have children, —which, of course, is the great majority of women. Instead, we'’ll just continue to tell women what Roe told them a generation before. You choose: your baby or yourself, your baby or your future, your baby or your success; this is a man'’s world, and you better become like a man, —that is, not pregnant —if you want to succeed.

IF THIS UTOPIAN IDEA WERE TO BECOME REALITY, THEN MY REASONS FOR BEING PROCHOICE WOULD DIMINISH. AS IVE STATED MANY TIMES BEFORE, AS A PARENT IM NOT GOING TO, IF POSSIBLE, ALLOW MY CHILD TO RUIN THEIR LIFE GOALS BY DOING ANYTHING DETRIMENTAL TO THAT GOAL, AND THAT INCLUDES HAVING AN UNWANTED BABY.

Women are beginning to realize that they'’d been sold on the idea that a mother is of far less value than a fully engaged professional person.
CERTAINLY EACH IS OF EQUAL VALUE IN THEIR "CHOSEN" ENDEAVOR. HOWEVER IN THE BUSINESS WORLD A "fully engaged professional WOMAN IS INDEED MUCH MORE VALUABLE TO THE BUSINESS THAN THE MOTHER OF YOUNG CHILDREN. THIS IS SO, SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED RISK OF TIME MISSED FROM WORK DUE TO "EMERGENCIES" NOT TO MENTION INCREASED EMPLOYER PAID BENEFITS

THE FOLLOWING ARE STATEMENTS I AGREE WITH!
============================================================================
During an era in which motherhood was revered much more than it is today, President Theodore Roosevelt said: [The mother] is the most indispensable component part of society. The work of men, he said, is not “as hard or as responsible as the work of a woman who is bringing up a family of small children.... I think the duty of the woman the more important, the more difficult, and the more honorable of the two.Â

I 100% AGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT WITH DETAILS BEST LEFT FOR ANOTHERDAY SO AS NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM THE MAIN SUBJECT HERE
_________________________________________________________________________________

Sadly, a feminism that puts the fight for abortion at the center of its crusade has convinced many women that their social status and power are more valuable than the very lives of their children and the influence they have in the world through their work as mothers.
Some social scientists have argued that such a feminism, having driven unprecedented numbers of mothers with small children into the work force full-time over the last few decades, is largely to blame for the difficulty most single mothers today have at making ends meet. After all, the financial power of the dual-income family —the norm today —has driven up the price of life's necessities. While two-parent families with a single income struggle and sacrifice to allow one parent to remain at home with young children, single mothers —responsible for both bread-winning and child-rearing, —are faced with an almost insurmountable financial obstacle.
I AGREE, BUT ANOTHER DAY FOR MY OPINION

Before I give my answers to your questions, let me first point out that "Crisis" is a very Christian magazine, so of course the article is going to be very biased. If the author of the article did not present any scientific evidence (citing or otherwise) for her increased risk of breast cancer, depression etc, then all she has written is a propoganda paper and nothing more-- and that is all it should be read as... aka "Junk".

> Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention
> Institute, presents evidence supporting a link between induced abortion
> and increased risk of breast cancer

ANYTHING THAT RAISES YOUR HORMONES TO THE DEGREE OF A PREGNANCY INCREASES YOUR RISK. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE MAY BE HOW THE BODY REACTS TO THE SUDDEN drop IN HORMONES, OF WHICH I AM NOT ENTIRELY SURE.

> Women who have had abortions suffer an increased risk of anxiety,
> depression, and suicide.

POSSIBLE. BUT, AS YOU SAID, WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER CATEGORIES. AS A PROPOGANDA PAPER, OF COURSE THE AUTHOR WOULD HAVE LEFT THE OTHER RESULTS OUT, ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY PROBABLY SHOWED EQUAL OR MORE SIGNIFICANT RESULTS. OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TO HER BENEFIT TO INCLUDE THEM TO REBUFF THE "NAYSAYERS".

Pre-term birth is associated with low birth-weight babies, and very low
> birth-weight babies (those born between 20 and 27 weeks) have 38 times the risk of having cerebral palsy—not to mention medical costs 28 times
> greater —than full-term babies.

DON'T KNOW ABOUT CEREBRAL PALSY OR LONG TERM MEDICAL COSTS, BUT THE REST IS OFTEN TIMES TRUE. HOWEVER, WITHOUT READING THE ARTICLE, THIS SEEMS OUT OF CONTEXT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO RESPOND TO IT.

> We can'’t afford to do the much more difficult work of creating
> environments that welcome women who have children, —which, of course, is

ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THAT. CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY THAT THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH WE LIVE HAS MORE "SUCCESSFUL" MOTHERS THAN CHILDLESS WOMEN? OR EVEN THAT IT can BE SUCH A WAY? NO ONE CAN HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT.

> Women are beginning to realize that they'’d been sold on the idea that a
> mother is of far less value than a fully engaged professional person.

WELL, FOR THEIR FAMILY THEY ARE MUCH MORE VALUABLE. FOR OUR SOCIETY, THEY ARE, BUT A LOT OF THEM DON'T DO A GREAT JOB (IE KIDS GETTING IN LOTS OF TROUBLE, HANGING OUT WITH THE WRONG PEOPLE, KIDS DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL ETC.) FOR THE BUSINESS WORLD, THEY ARE LESS IMPORTANT. THATS CLEAR. BESIDES, WE'RE OVER POPULATED. WE DON'T NEED UNWANTED CHILDREN ANYWAY. ANYONE HAVING LOTS OF CHILDREN OR HAVING UNWANTED CHILDREN IS DOING A DISSERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD.

when you say "ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THAT" in response to " its a mans world ......
that is NOT the writers words. rather she was quoting societies feelings in general. She DOES NOT hold such views herself i should think.

MY UNEDUCATED GUESS HERE WOULD BE THAT MISCARRIAGE OUGHT POSSIBLY ALSO INCREASE THAT RISK, NO?

My understanding is that the increased risk is caused by the sudden interruption in the normal maturation process of the breast cells.

IS IT NOT ALSO POSSIBLE WITH EQUAL REGULARITY THAT WOMEN WHO .... SCENARIO I WOULD LIKE TO MEASURE WOMEN'S MENTAL CONDITIONS WHEN FORCED TO CARRY AN UNWANTED BABY TO TERM.

My understanding is that the studies simply compared women who'd aborted, women who'd given birth, and women who'd not experienced a pregnancy, and found the highest rate of depression among the abortion cohort. The only studies I know of doing follow-up of women who didn't get abortions after requesting them were done in Scandinavia in the 1950s. Mary Calderone of Planned Parenthood summarized the reports to the Conference on Induced Abortion:

"Conference members agreed, and this was backed up by evidence from the Scandinavians, that when a woman seeking an abortion is given the chance of talking over her problem with a properly trained and oriented person, she will in the process very often resolve many of her qualms and will spontaneously decide to see the pregnancy through, particularly if she is assured that supportive help will continue to be available to her."

Make of that what you will.
